LARA WETLANDS UNPOWERED BUSH CAMPING
Parking – Please reverse or drive vans/campers directly toward waterline if camping at the waterline. No side profiling at the waters edge or 45 degree angles.. Please remain behind our post and rail barriers and keep camp fires and any part of your camp off the waters edge. Please CHECK above you when choosing a campsite and DO NOT park under large branches, as you do so at your own risk.
Departure Time – Strictly 10am and enforced.
Pets – Your fur babies MUST be on a leash at all times. No Exceptions. Please use your dog bags everywhere! Bins are provided for disposal of droppings. Sorry, but if you are caught with your pet off leash you WILL be asked to leave our campground. No 2nd chances. We value our bird life, the safety of our guests, pets and children.
Generators/Loud Music – Generators may only be used between the hours of 8.00 and 10.00am, 3.00 and 5pm. Please keep music at a level to be enjoyed by your camp only. No loud music day or night. Please have consideration for your fellow campers.
Grey Water Drainage – Direct flow toward trees/grass if possible but keep well away from the Wetlands and bore drains.
Contained Camp Fires / Firewood – ALL Timber inside our Wetlands must be purchased. We have pre-cut and loaded timber in trolleys with kindling available for sale from the Office at $15 per load. Ash is to be disposed of in pits provided, on departure, not around our trees. Please return our trolley once you’ve unloaded at your camp. A limited number of complimentary Fire Pits/Drums are available for use. All fires are to be contained and you may use your own Fire Pit if you have one. Please empty and return ours to ash pit areas. Self collection of firewood from our paddocks or access road is NOT permitted due to grass fire risk.
Artesian Water / Taps & Sprinklers – Watering is done by Staff/Volunteers. You may fill up your water tanks at our designated water points. Full time connection to our taps is NOT permitted. Our onsite staff are connected permanently to our water supply as they live here for the season. Water is 100% pure from all taps.
Therapeutic Thermal Therapy Area – All natural 100% pure Artesian water under constant flow with a sand base. Algae is present, safe and normal for artesian water. Our Hot Pool is provided for quiet therapeutic benefits with the temperature set at upwards of 36 + degrees. We know kids love to run, jump and play in and around water so we have a Kids’ thermal waterhole, cool waterhole, cubby house and sand pit just for them. We ask that parents/carers do not allow their children to dig holes around our Wetlands or in our pool area. Children are NOT permitted in this area without constant supervision.
Kayaks – Bicycles –COMPLIMENTARY- ONE hour maximum paddle/ride per use. Kayaks are provided to view our bird life residing in the Wetlands with minimum impact on their environment. We ask that parents/carers please supervise their children whilst kayaking and ensure children do NOT pull out our swamp grasses or dig holes around the edge of our Wetlands. Kayaks and Bikes are not to be kept at campsites and must be returned before nightfall and or once the hour is expired. Please be fair and share.
Tours / Camp Oven Dinners – Tours are to be advised for 2021. Camp Oven Dinners cost $25 per person and are usually provided weekly as advertised at the Wetlands Office and on our Facebook page, with live entertainment when available also. Bookings are essential as numbers are capped for catering purposes.
Children / Playground / Cubby House / Sand Pit –
PARENTS/CARERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE THERE ARE OPEN WATER SOURCES AT LARA WETLANDS. YOU MUST SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES!!!!
PLEASE ensure YOUR children are supervised by an ADULT at ALL TIMES for their safety, including all equipment and facilities. Our playground, cubby, thermal waterhole etc are open for play from 7 am – 5pm. Please encourage your children in understanding our Wetlands is a sensitive environment and sanctuary for over 127 bird species that reside and visit our Wetlands. Please ensure your children do NOT pull out our swamp grasses or dig holes at the waters edge. We have a sand pit just for that activity.
Camp Kitchen – Provided for use by DAY VISITORS & NON SELF CONTAINED Campers ONLY. BBQ, wood stove, sinks with hot water, tables and chairs.
Day Visitors – Day Visitors MUST book via the Day Visitors Booking Form here on our web page. You can visit for the day between the hours of 9 am – 5pm at a cost of $10 per full day per person. Family package of 2 adults and up to 4 children $40. We are a private property campground not a council funded park, therefore there are no free visits, fees apply.
Rubbish – WHAT YOU BRING IN YOU MUST TAKE OUT. We will collect aluminium cans only. No plastic/glass/bags or tins to be put in bins. Please DO NOT crush the cans as our local recycling point will not accept them. THANK YOU for your consideration of our environment. Composting bins are provided for fruit/vegetable matter. No general rubbish please.
There is a skip bin on the Landsborough Highway across the road from our access road entrance or alternatively the Barcaldine Refuse Tip is 2km south of Barcaldine township and does not charge dumping fees.
DRONES – Use of DRONES is NOT PERMITTED. We value our 127 bird species living and visiting the Wetlands. NO EXCEPTIONS.
WETLANDS – NO SWIMMING, CLIMBING OF TREES or PULLING OUT SWAMP GRASSES IN OUR WETLANDS. COOL POOL & KIDS THERMAL WATERHOLE PROVIDED FOR SWIMMING.

Please note our cabin is equipped with 1 x Queen bed, 1 x single trundle bed, all linen, cooking utensils, cutlery & crockery, 12v Engel fridge/freezer, day bed, table & chairs, sink for washing up and a fire pit. Amenities block next door with shower/toilet facilities.
