Lara Wetlands is an un-powered bush camping ground on a working cattle station, Lara Station, south of Barcaldine. The wetlands are fed by a century old artesian bore. The water is shallow and full of dead ghost gums and provides a wonderful habitat for over 127 species of birds. No Swimming/Fishing/Walking in Wetlands.
If you are travelling with a pet it MUST be kept on a leash at all times at our campground. There is an all natural artesian thermal pool at Lara.
It is an idyllic bush camp that is well set up around the wetlands that has abundant bird life and is a photographers joy.
Sunrise and Sunset’s are just amazing with the reflections on the water.
There are unlimited tranquil shady un-powered camping areas around the wetlands, that welcome all van sizes, motor homes and tents. There are no allocated sites so you can choose your camp site where it suits you best.
Many stop for a night or two and stay for a week or longer. Camp fees are per person or per couple per night, there is a nightly family package available, and no Eftpos facilities as the mobile phone range is limited. The large camp kitchen can cater for large groups and is located by the natural thermal Artesian pool and kids playground. We have a children’s thermal swimming hole also, free kayaks and kids bicycles to help entertain the young ones. There are complimentary flushing toilets, hot showers, a black dump point, fire drums and firewood (available to purchase) for your camp fire. Collecting firewood from our paddocks or access road is NOT permitted, however feel free to BYO firewood.
